In the fourth quarter of 2021, the top five travel and local apps in South Africa exhibited diverse performance trends. This analysis, based on data from Sensor Tower, highlights the weekly downloads, revenue, and active users for each app on a unified platform.

Booking.com: Hotels & Travel experienced fluctuations in weekly downloads, starting at around 15.7K in late September and dipping to 9.3K by mid-October. However, a recovery was seen towards the end of the quarter, peaking at approximately 15.5K in the last week of December. The app also saw weekly active users ranging from 196K to 213K, with a notable increase towards the end of the quarter.

Find my Phone - Family Locator had a varied performance in weekly downloads, with a significant spike to 21.2K in the first week of November before stabilizing around 10K by the end of December. The app’s weekly revenue showed a general upward trend, peaking at about $2.9K in late November. Active users fluctuated, starting at around 10.5K and reaching up to 14.2K by the end of the quarter.

Airbnb maintained a fairly steady download rate, beginning at 6.4K in late September and ending the quarter at 8.3K. The active user base remained consistent, starting at around 61K and increasing to approximately 69.7K by the end of December.
